Home Hacks

Home Hacks

Good morning everybody. How are you all? I am losing track of the days at the moment to be perfectly honest. Thank goodness for my meal planning, otherwise I think all the days would just be one big blur.

I thought I would write a blog about some home hacks I have been doing recently. After all, who doesn’t love those little light bulb moments? 💡

  1. Limit packaging in the freezer. Take the food out of the packaging and put it into freezer bags. This gives you so much more room for storage.
  2. Use a lint roller for dusting lights. It picks up the dust so quickly.
  3. Use a dishwasher tablet to help clean your oven. Dip half of the tablet in water and then watch your oven door come up like new.
  4. Make the bed every morning! Even if you don’t normally, this makes such a difference to your mental health and well being.
  5. Baskets. I use baskets for storing everything and it is so much easier to find the things you need, when you need them. Baskets in the fridge, baskets on the surfaces. Baskets baskets everywhere.
  6. Spinning organisers are so useful for storing products under the sink or for storing makeup. They are so easy to use and you can quickly access the things you need.
  7. For touching up scuffs or scratches on walls, use samples. Dulex do some amazing samples for such a small price.
  8. Stick down your carpets and welcome mats with heavy duty tape. It stops them from moving around when hoovering.
  9. I said it before and I will say it again. Plan your meals ahead of cooking. It makes dinner time more enjoyable and yep, you guessed it – easier!
  10. Cut your sponges in half. They last so much longer that way and you don’t need a whole sponge anyway for cleaning! 🧽

Do you have any home hacks?

Time Fillers

Time Fillers

Good afternoon on this gorgeous sunny day guys! It’s day three of the UK lockdown and I’m over here keeping as busy as I can. So now you have been told you can’t go out, how do you fill a day?

Don’t get me wrong, I know the novelty will wear off soon and we will all be complaining of how bored we are. I am someone who likes to potter about at the shops and I really do miss my coffee shops and garden centres. But I am also someone who never really went ‘out out’ a lot. I quite enjoy my own company and my partner and I may occasionally go out for a pub lunch or for drinks but we aren’t missing the ‘social scene’ as such. Well, not yet anyway!

Zumba workouts, organising, re-organising and cleaning, writing, reading, dipping in and out of work related emails and work setting & binge watching series (currently watching The Marvellous Mrs Maisel and loving it!) are just a few things I do each day to keep myself busy. Also, if you don’t have the House Party app then get it. My colleagues and I had a chat yesterday on there and it was so nice to just speak to everyone.

So, what are you guys doing to keep yourselves busy? I would love to hear some suggestions of other things I can add to the list.

Lots of love x

High Street Glow

High Street Glow

Happy Sunday gang! I hope everyone has had a great weekend. ♥️

Whenever I think about makeup, I think about how to get that glow. I have written a couple of blog posts about different makeup routines trying out different products but this is my every day go-to makeup look.

I have been using these same products now for months and they are all from the high street. As much as I would love to use higher end products, my bank balance just doesn’t stretch that far I am afraid. If you want an affordable glowy makeup routine then here are some incredible products that won’t let you down.

First up, Glow Cherie from L’Oreal Paris. Before I even found this, I was using Bonjour Sunshine Liquid Bronzer by L’Oreal – equally as amazing. Glow Cherie wakes up your skin with a luminous, radiant glow. This hydrating skin enhancer covers imperfections and skin instantly appears healthier and glowing. Sometimes I only wear this!

If I want that extra glowy, dewy look then I put a pump of Glow Cherie mixed with No 7’s Skin Illuminator and Miracle Glow from Max Factor. This combination is flawless. All of these products can be used on their own but I love mixing them together.

The concealer I have been using for years now is L’Oreal’s True Match The One in shade Ivory. The coverage is great and really covers up those dark circles and blemishes.

With four pigmented shades, L’Oreal Paris La Vie En Glow Highlighting Palette is a must have addition to anyone’s makeup bag. The colours in the palette are warming on the skin and give you that radiance.

Let’s talk about Iconic London. I have been using the original illuminating drops for about three years now and I am still obsessed. You only need a tiny bit and you have cheek bones for days.

Finally, 24h Eyeshadow from Bourjois in shade Beige brings the look together. You know those makeup tutorials we all watch with the inner eye highlight? Look no further! Admittedly, this is a new addition to my makeup bag but I am loving it so far.

You can pick these products up anywhere – on the high street, on Amazon and on Ebay brand new. If you want that long lasting glowy look, I can say that I have tried and tested them all and that my daily makeup routine is easy, gorgeous and most importantly affordable. ✨

New Year Resolutions

New Year Resolutions

The countdown to NYE and to another decade is on which means that for those of us who make new year resolutions, we need to start thinking!

For me, and probably a lot of others, I tend to do so well in January with regards to my resolutions. Then life gets in the way and in February – not so much. Sound familiar? So here’s why I am only making one resolution this year…

New Year Resolution 2020: Be genuinely happy

A biggy right? After a broken engagement, moving countries, starting a new job, finding a new love and doing a full 180 (thank you Dua Lipa for writing a song about my year), being happy is my number one priority. I could make lists for days about getting that bikini bod, changes I will make to my diet, to drink more water, to spend less money but actually can’t all of those things happen naturally with focusing on being happy?

2020 is also the last year of my 20s so it’s going to be a good one! And who is responsible for that? Me! ♥️

What are your New Year Resolutions?

Supermarket Jumpers

Supermarket Jumpers

Good evening everyone! I can’t believe it is December already. Where has the time gone? It’s been a few weeks since my last blog post in collaboration with Lily Blanche so I thought I would write about my absolute favourite thing about colder months…jumpers!

This year the supermarkets have absolutely killed it when it comes to knitwear. I have been to the high street and looked online but in my opinion, nothing has beaten Florence and Fred at Tesco and TU at Sainsburys.

I have linked most of the jumpers below but unfortunately I can’t find the links for the Florence and Fred jumpers.

Tu at Sainsburys

This chunky cable knit jumper is in a gorgeous pale cornflower blue. It comes in at £20 and is extremely washable and wearable for any occasion. I have paired it with jeans and heels and also with midi skirts and flat boots. This jumper is one of my favourites for this season! I am in love with this moss green colour and it looks so lovely with dark jeans and brown boots. It is a bit thinner than the cornflower blue one above but I love the delicate nature of it. It is part of the Premium range and comes in at £28. I love an eyelash jumper! So clearly, I bought three. These jumpers are just so versatile and are perfect for just throwing on with a pair of jeans at the weekend. I also wear these with leather skirts and for layering over dresses. I have linked below the red mix and the mustard yellow jumpers. I also have it in a black with different coloured specks. These jumpers come in at £20 each. My final jumper this season from Tu at Sainsburys is this Fair Isle Yoke pattern knit. It is dark navy with a really cute pattern around the neck line. The arms are a bit more bat sleeve than the other jumpers which I didn’t realise at first, but it makes it even more cosy. I really love a Fair Isle knit as it makes me feel so festive. 🎅 Link below: https://tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/p/Navy-Fair-Isle-Yoke-Knitted-Jumper/135768181-Navy?searchTerm=:newArrivals&searchProduct=

Florence and Fred at Tesco

Unfortunately I can’t link the jumpers below from Tesco as their website doesn’t seem to have an online shop anymore which is a shame.

The first jumper which can be seen in my IGTV Dermalogica skin care routine (link here: https://www.instagram.com/p/B5TcCBGAhqp/) is a gorgeous baby blue roll neck with puff sleeves. I got this in the sale for £12! Originally it was £16 which is still an absolute bargain. I have had so many compliments when I have worn this and it is just so soft. It is still in store now – I went into my nearest store tonight and it was there.

Another jumper I purchased from Tesco was the one photographed in my latest Instagram feed. It is also a roll neck and is cream with baby blue, orange and pink flecks. Super soft again and it came in at £18.

I hope that if you have been on the lookout for new jumpers that this post has perhaps pointed you in the right direction. The supermarkets are amazing for affordable and transitional pieces – I couldn’t rate them more at the moment and honestly, their knitwear is to die for. ❤️

Lily Blanche

Lily Blanche

Hold the phone, drop everything and check out the beautiful Lily Blanche brand!

I am delighted to write this blog post in collaboration with Lily Blanche and I am so excited to share this beautiful company.

The Story of Lily Blanche

Lily Blanche believe that creating memories is more valuable than diamonds. They design collections to cherish and pieces that will mark special occasions for loved ones. Gillian Crawford, the founder of this beautiful brand (who is also one of the kindest and most lovely women I have had the pleasure of working alongside) has taken inspiration from her grandmother Lily Blanche Sheridan who lived an incredible life travelling thousands of miles with four young children living in India in the last days of the Raj witnessing the rise of Gandhi. Gillian’s grandmother is at the heart of the gorgeous brand with her wonderful and exotic pieces, which provided a lot of inspiration for the designs Lily Blanche has to offer.

Packaging

Can we please just stop to appreciate how beautiful this packaging is? It is absolutely stunning and really is quite luxurious. The black ribbon-tied gift box, the collection look book and the gorgeous branding are just a treat.

The Lily Blanche Key Collection is described as one of their most romantic collections. I can certainly see why! The intricate design with the small gold key is just so unusual (left piece in the box). The locket opens to take two pictures or a keepsake which is such a lovely personal touch. The locket heart is made of sterling silver and the key is made of 18 carat gold vermeil on sterling silver.

The second piece, which is perfect for layering, is the gold key pendant (right piece in the box). Link to the pendant: https://www.lilyblanche.com/lily-blanche-gold-key-pendant

I am excited to announce that I am doing a giveaway of a gold key pendant as linked above – just in time for the festive period. Whether you are looking to treat yourself or give the gift of Lily Blanche to a loved one, for entry details please go to the post on my Instagram.

Thank you so much to Lily Blanche for allowing me to work closely with you on this collaboration. I have been truly inspired by your pieces and I can’t wait to wear them! 💕

A Big Decision

A Big Decision

Social media. Our use of it can affect how authentic and how honest and true to ourselves we really are. I have written about this topic before on my blog and I’m going to write about it again.

I have been ‘instagramming’ for four months now. It’s been exciting, fun, hard work and really difficult all at once. I have been so lucky to work with brands and companies receiving gifted items and creating content has been so enjoyable. For the most part, my social media experience has been positive so far.

Two mornings ago I woke up and logged onto Instagram. For the first time I had a feeling of dread. I knew I was going to spend the next fifteen to thirty minutes scrolling through my feed, engaging on pages and in comments and I just didn’t want to do it. It felt like a chore. But I just carried on as normal and posted my daily photos and engaged with my feed. Mistake.

It took me a couple of days to really decide that actually I wasn’t happy with doing that anymore. I wanted to engage with content I truly loved and creators who I know by name and who I can chat with in the comments section. Queue the cull.

There are so many reasons to create content and lots of people use the platform in a positive way. However, there is such a dark side that no one seems to really chat about that openly. If people on Instagram tell you they don’t watch their followers count like a hawk, they are lying. I have had numerous chats on Instagram with lovely ladies about how it has affected their mood, their mental health and actually what is all that for? Honestly the feeling of your follower count increasing is great but not at the expense of your day-to-day reality and your happiness.

So what’s my point? My point is that we should be doing less scrolling and more living. ♥️

My Someone

My Someone

Over the past three months I have opened up my heart to someone who has shown me love, kindness and support. Every day this someone makes me smile. Every day this someone teaches me new things. Every day this someone makes my heart full. ❣

When my ex broke off our engagement, a close friend said to me ‘One day it will all make sense. You will understand why this has happened and you will find the right someone.’ Boy were they right.

The Game of The Gram

The Game of The Gram

It’s been about 9 weeks since I started blogging and creating content on Instagram. In 9 weeks I have learnt a lot and how scary it really can be.

I decided to use social media as an outlet after some big changes happened in my life. I never thought it would be about the number of followers I had – it was about doing what I love which is sharing outfit pictures, talking about new products and just telling my story. But you don’t realise how much of a game Instagram is until you start playing.

My favourite game is ‘Follow Unfollow’. The amount of followers you have and how many you are losing can become an obsession. At the start of my journey, I definitely checked my followers count more than I should have done. I think the most followers I gained in one day was around 150, all of which I lost the very next day. I quickly started to realise how much of game it all was and one I just wasn’t prepared to join in with. I decided to only engage with accounts I really liked and those that inspired me and grow organically.

I have felt quite overwhelmed since starting my account. It takes up a lot of time engaging with fellow creators. Researching new hashtags, looking at your reach, talking about your account to your friends who think you’ve gone crazy, questioning why one of your photos didn’t do as well as others. When you really stop and think about how much time you have spent doing all of the above, it’s quite shocking. Put it into perspective.

Creating content, taking photographs and finding amazing accounts are all parts of Instagram I really enjoy. On the flip side, it can also be a dark place where individuals can get lost in the air brushing and body morphing. I scroll through Instagram and see account after account of these beautiful young women who feel the need to look ‘perfect’ and ‘Insta-ready’.

Reality check. Nobody is perfect and no one ever will be. It’s about loving who you really are – not the version of yourself you are sharing on Instagram.

For me, Instagram has been a learning curve. I will continue to create content for as long as I enjoy it and hopefully those who engage with me continue to like what I do. I have also met some incredible women and I am very grateful for that.

A Bad Day

A Bad Day

Have you ever had one of those days where you feel super flat and you can’t pin point why?🤷🏽‍♀️

Tomorrow, I have been home for a whole month. It’s flown by and it’s pretty crazy that an entire month has passed to be honest.

Don’t get me wrong – I am feeling very positive about what is yet to come but the unknown is kind of scary. I keep trying to push everything I have recently gone through to the back of my mind: moving country, a broken engagement and trying to find a new job. Perhaps that is where I am going wrong. Instead of pushing it out, I need to be embracing the change. Easier said than done on a bad day. (Not to mention I feel quite hormonal right now!)

Very good things are starting to happen in all areas of my life. Some are very lovely but unexpected and I am looking forward to the next adventures.
